The day began will everyone arriving at the Pontifical College Josephinum where a continental breakfast was enjoyed by all except for classmate Katie Row who had left the previous day for medical reasons. And we were pleased to have Veronica Wilcox back with us.

The first presenter was Alice Black, Director. She led a discussion about the previous day’s events. Much discussion was had, especially regarding the comment of one of our guest speakers – to paraphrase: That Americans do not have a clear understanding of what is happening in Iraq or even in our own country for that matter. Many people around the world are much more informed about world events than people of the United States. Alice also had us write in our journals concerning our impressions of the previous day’s events. We were then asked to describe when/why we had felt that way before.

Our next presenter was Rev. Dr. Paul Numrich. He is an expert in world religions and discussed the major religions in the United States. The United States are becoming more diverse both culturally as well as religiously. He stated that if his numbers are accurate that there are now more Muslims in the United States than Jews. This is an historical change. For more information about Rev. Dr. Numrich, his website is www.tcgcohio.org.

Our next presenter was Rev. Dr. Lawrence Herrera. He provided insights into what makes a good leader. He said, ‘To be a leader, you must first know yourself.’ His suggestion for accomplishing this is to do something for yourself Intellectually, Humanly, and Spiritually. He also recommended reading Habits of the Heart by Robert N. Bellah, et. al. For those interested here is a link on Amazon to the book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0520205685/qid=1128349514/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-6297217-3329623?v=glance&s=books

Finally he recommended that each of us journal. To effectively journal you need, a space that is truly comfortable, and a place where you can be in solitude.

During lunch, we had a presentation from Beth Flynn, Extension Associate on “Etiquette Survival”. The day was concluded with a tour of the Josephinum and completion of the evaluations.
